Brookdale Community College’s Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education (Chhange), Lincroft, invites community members to its Fall 2018 Survivor Speaker Series.
“One Lost Boy of the Sudan” will be presented on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. Nathaniel Nyok was 8 years old when he left war-torn Sudan for a refugee camp thousands of miles away in Ethiopia. For 15 years he fought to survive, eventually immigrating to the United States. Cost is $10, free to Chhange members and BCC students.
“Rhoda Kuflik, Holocaust Survivor” will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. Kuflik was 2 years old when the Germans invaded her hometown of Kuty, Poland. She’ll share her young-reader memoir and discuss her family’s escape from persecution in Europe to the United States. Cost is $10, free to Chhange members and BCC students.
“Commemoration of the November Pogrom & Veterans Day” will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. The 1938 pogrom initiated widespread violence against Germany’s Jewish community with more than 90 deaths and over 30,000 Jewish men sent to concentration camps. In a Chhange-produced documentary, “I Was There,” three local veterans reflect on their eyewitness experiences entering concentration camps at the end of World War II. Free.
