Zenith Thaler

Zenith Thaler (Raicer), 90, of Westfield died Aug. 14, 2013. Born in Bayonne, she lived in Cranford for 30 years and Elizabeth for seven years before moving to Westfield 26 years ago.

In her youth Mrs. Thaler had been a concert pianist who appeared at Carnegie Hall. She worked as a schoolteacher, beginning her career in Bayonne, where she taught for 10 years before moving on to Irvington, where she taught grades K-12 for 35 years.

She held a BA in education from Seton Hall University, a master’s degree in English from New York University, and a master’s in social studies from Kean University.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Steve Gerber) of Westfield; two sons, Ted (Andrea) of Nashville, Tenn., and Jeff of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 16 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
