William Burger

William Robert Burger, 78, of Secaucus died March 26, 2012. He was raised in Newark.

Mr. Burger ran New Jersey Glass Company, growing it into one of the largest plate glass installers in the tri-state region. He also started the Service Insurance Company of West Orange, which continues as a surety company.

He attended Newark Academy, where he excelled in academics and sports such as competitive swimming and pole vaulting. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1954. In his 50s, he graduated from Seton Hall Law School.

He served in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Lieutenant JG on board the USS Naifeh.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Dorene; three sons, Mitchell, James, and Glen; a brother, John Simon; a sister, Norma Grandi; and six grandchildren.
