What concessions?
For years, peacemakers shied away from contentious issues. Their rationale was explained by some as one of child psychology for it was felt that a stalemate would be held until a time when the parties would be more familiar with each other. Apparently, it is now felt that the time is right or rather essential that they be negotiated. The well established issues referenced are as follows:
- Jerusalem
- Refugees
- Borders
- Security settlements
- Recognizing Israel as a Jewish state
- Demilitarized Palestinian state
- Israel’s non-acceptance of Hamas in a Palestine state (recent addition)
What concessions can possibly be considered for items 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7? Perhaps very minor agreement can be obtained on items 3 and 4. What then?
