Weequahic player
I believe Herb Akelaitis is the unidentified third student in the photo (above) of three Weequahic High School varsity football players with coach Bucky Harris that accompanies the article regarding Philip Roth’s Nemesis (“Separating fact from fiction in Philip Roth’s latest novel,” Nov. 11).
Herb graduated Weequahic High School in June 1950 and is mentioned prominently in the Legend yearbook as “the stalwart of the 1948 Weequahic line.”
I graduated Weequahic High in June 1950; thanks for an interesting look back.
