Walter Springer

Walter J. Springer, 90, of West Orange, formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., died April 10, 2012. Born in Oettingen, Germany, he came to the United States in 1940.

He worked as an account executive at Paper Mart, East Hanover.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Italian Campaign, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

He served as president of the Jewish Center of West Orange (now B’nai Shalom, 1971-1972.

Predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Dahl), he is survived by two daughters, Janet Levine and Susan Hammer; his son, Stephen; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 11 at B’nai Shalom with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ, 901 Route 10 East, PO Box 929, Whippany, NJ 07981, to be designated for programs for Holocaust survivors.
