Visual Arts: Gaelen Gallery East
JCC METROWEST presents an exhibit of pastels and sculpture by Gaelen Juried Art Show award winners Debra Kapnick and Anne Carlino. The exhibit takes place in the Gaelen Gallery East at the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, Ross Family Campus, in West Orange. Abstract painter and Gaelen Juried Art Show award winner Chas Palminteri will have works exhibited in the Arts/Theater Lobby and Roland Exhibition Corridor. All exhibits will be on view March 4-April 29.
Kapnick of Randolph has studied at the Morris County Art Association, Morristown; Lakeside Art Studio, Parsippany; and Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Summit. She explores multiple media to create flowers, landscapes, and other unusual pieces. Her paintings have been also been exhibited at the Art Upstairs Gallery at the Mayo Arts Center in Morristown.
“I’m often asked which medium is my favorite,” she said. “The answer changes, and painting in multiple mediums allows me to truly appreciate the unique features of each one. Painting has taught me to notice more details and enjoy the beauty found in nature more than ever before.”
Sculptor Anne Carlino had a long career as a teacher in many subjects, except for art.
“Over the years I have crocheted and experimented with pottery, watercolor, acrylic, macramé, drawing, and ceramics. I discovered my talent for sculpting in the 1990s and have been sculpting or ‘making art’ in other mediums ever since.”
Chas Palminteri is a bold, abstract painter. He uses a variety of approaches in an abstract impressionist framework to create luminosity of color and light. Through the use of contrast in negative and positive areas, his works of art lead a viewer through a maze of dreams and fantasy.
In May and June the Gaelen Gallery East will feature painter Michael Lenson and in the Arts/Theater Lobby, painter David John Rush.
The Gaelen Gallery East is open during JCC hours: Monday-Thursday, 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday, 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Please contact Lisa Suss at 973–530–3413 or lsuss@jccmetrowest.org.
