Violet Levy
Violet Levy (Klein) of Old Saybrook, Conn., died April 24, 2011. Born in Carteret, she resided in Philadelphia, Colonia, and Livingston before moving to Old Saybrook eight years ago.
During her career in education, Mrs. Levy was employed by the boards of education in Philadelphia, Woodbridge, Edison, and Carteret. She also served as an adjunct professor at Kean University.
She received her teaching certificate from the State Teachers College in Newark in 1937 and in 1971 earned a master’s of education degree as a reading specialist from Kean, where she also received a supervisory certificate in 1972.
A life member of Hadassah of Middlesex County, she also was involved with the sisterhood of Ohev Shalom in Colonia, the JCC of Edison, the New Jersey Education Association, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County.
Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, she is survived by two daughters, June Seidel of Fairlawn, Ohio, and Ruth Levy of Old Saybrook; a brother, Ted Klein of Southbury, Conn.; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
Services were held April 27 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
