Unanswered questions
Although the Nov. 20 JTA article “Pointing Fingers: Is Abbas to blame for Jerusalem synagogue attacks?” outlines various possible causes for the unrest, it did not address the following questions:
1. What lessons should the present Israeli government take from the previous Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to reach a settlement?
2. Since the article had presented contradictory statements of Abbas’s capability to be a creditable negotiating partner, who should Israel approach to reach a settlement?
3. The assassination of President Sadat was attributed in part to his failure to require the Israelis to address the Palestinian refugee issue as part of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty. What would be the impact of several million Palestinian refugees be on any settlement reached with the Palestinians?
