Tillie Ida Pass

Tillie Ida Pass (Finkelstein), 92, of Highland Park died Oct. 15, 2014. She lived in St. Louis before moving to Columbia, Mo.; Mission, Kansas; New Britain, Conn.; and Des Plaines, Ill. She moved to Highland Park in 1966.

A child of the Depression, Mrs. Pass left school after eighth grade and went to work to help support her family. She distinguished herself decades later as a World Book representative, having won many prestigious awards for her success at selling educational materials.

As a young woman, she became involved with recreation, sisterhood, and social activities at the YM-YWHA in St. Louis, where she played volleyball and participated in various organizations. Both she and her husband Isie received the “KOVOD” (“honor”) award.

She was also involved with Hadassah, facilitating knit stocking caps to be made and delivered to local hospitals for patients.

Predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Israel, she is survived by her children, Ruby and Don, Sanford, Leonard, Scott and Diane; and nine grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 19 at Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah.
