Sylvia Weissman
Sylvia Weissman of Verona died Aug. 6, 2012. Born in New York City, she lived in Cedar Grove, in Westfield for over 25 years, in North Bergen, and in Verona for the past 25 years.
Together with her late husband Jack, Mrs. Weissman was the owner of Dinettes Beautiful of Union and Rahway for over 25 years and then went on to found Avanti Furniture, an importer and manufacturer of dinette and restaurant furniture, where she worked for 10 years before retiring 26 years ago.
Active in Temple Emanu-El of Westfield and the United Jewish Appeal of Central New Jersey, she was the recipient of the UJA’s Lion of Judah award. She was also active with the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and other art and theatrical societies in New York City. An avid oenophile, she was also involved in many wine and cultural societies.
She is survived by two sons, Neil and Alan, and a sister, Claire Kaplan.
Services were held Aug. 9 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
