Sylvia Weinberg Feinberg

Sylvia Weinberg Feinberg, 92, of South Orange died Jan. 23, 2011. Born in Newark, she moved with her mother and brother in 1936 to Palestine, where she lived and studied for two years. She and her mother returned to the United States in 1936 and rejoined her father.

Mrs. Feinberg worked for many years as a travel agent, specializing in Israel travel and cruises with Trans Travel, Inc., an agency established by her brother and nephew.

With her husband and several friends, she was active in the formation of Bet Yeled, a secular Hebrew school in Newark. She also served as president of Dorot Zion, a branch of the Labor Zionist Organization, and helped to establish and served as president of the Herzlia chapter of Pioneer Women (now Na’amat). She was also a life member of the Essex County Section of the National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah. She was an active member of the sisterhood of Congregation Beth El, South Orange.

She graduated from South Side High School, Newark, in 1934.

Predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Julius, in 2009, she is survived by three sons, Paul of West Allenhurst, Ira of New York City, and Robert of Chevy Chase, Md.; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 24 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
