Sylvia Rothstein, 100, of New Providence died April 29, 2012. Born in Jersey City, she also had resided in New York City, Miami, South Orange, and Maplewood.
Ms. Rothstein worked as a nurse and also as a social worker, where she was the resident director at the 92nd Street Y, New York City.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center’s Nursing School. She also received her bachelor’s degree from New York University and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University.
She was a member of Hadassah and the Columbia University Alumni Association.
She is survived by her sister, Pauline Bender of Maplewood; three nieces, Ruth Goldstein of Hackensack, Toby Staenberg of Somerset, and Lois Kitchen of Israel; her nephew, Stanley Rothstein of Rocklin, Calif.; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
Services were held April 30 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
