Sylvia Lewis
Sylvia A. Lewis, 80, of Monroe Township died Nov. 18, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Plainview, NY, before moving to New Jersey 16 years ago.
Mrs. Lewis was employed by the Hicksville School District, Long Island, as a home economics teacher before retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the National Education Association and the Long Island Teachers Association.
She was a very active member of the Plainview Jewish Center, which honored her as “Woman of the Year” in 1981. In Monroe, she was active with Congregation B’nai Tikvah, North Brunswick, and Monroe Hadassah.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Erwin; her son, Monte of Oak Park, Ill.; two daughters, Faith Bowers of Newtown, Pa., and Meryl Reis of Yardley, Pa.; a brother, Leon Aronsky of Monroe; a sister, Beatrice Abramson of greater Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 19 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
