Sylvia Horowitz (Sorkowitz), 94, of South Orange died July 22, 2015. Born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, she lived for over 50 years in Queens before moving to South Orange four years ago. She also had spent winters in Tamarac, Fla.
A businesswoman, Mrs. Horowitz worked part time until age 88.
She was active in American Friends of Magen David Adom in New York and Florida.
Predeceased by her husband, Jerome, in 1982, and her son, Richard, in 1974, she is survived by two daughters, Elayne Shapiro (Ellen Giusto) and Carol Redmore (Jerry Tuttle); a sister, Meriam Kraus; a brother, Howard Soren; three granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Services were held July 23 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
