Sylvia C. Brown, 79, of Ocean Township died May 30, 2011. She was born in Bath, Maine.
Mrs. Brown taught second grade, managed the children’s pre-admission program at JFK Medical Center in Edison, and tutored Russian-Jewish immigrants in English.
She graduated from Leslie College.
She was a member of Congregation Neve Shalom, Metuchen, and Congregation Torat El, Ocean. She also volunteered for the Democratic Party and the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by her husband, Morris; two sons, David Hilary of Ocean and Alan Stuart of Woodbridge; her daughter, Patricia Keneally of Warren; four sisters, Ruth Gamer, Ida Levin, and Ann Orkin, all of Massachusetts, and Janet Grafton of Florida; two brothers, Edward Cogan of California and Nathan Cogan of Oregon; and a grandson.
Services were held June 2 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the JFK Medical Center Foundation.
