Sylvia Becker

Sylvia Becker (Silverman) died April 13, 2013. Born in New York City, she resided in West Orange before moving to Roseland 20 years ago.

Mrs. Becker was a co-owner of Becker Auto Supply, Jersey City, for 53 years before retiring in 1971.

She was a member of Congregation Beth Torah, which later merged with Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange, and was active in Oheb Shalom’s sisterhood and Rosh Hodesh group, Jewish Women International, and the Together on Tuesday group.

Predeceased by her husband, William, and a grandson, Andrew Becker, she is survived by her daughter, Arlene Tevelow-Levy of Roseland; two sons, Newton of Minneapolis and Russell of Livingston; two brothers, Jack and William Silverman, both of Verona; a sister, Bertha Rachmiel of West Orange; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 15 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
