Sylvia Ast (Cohen), 97, of Plantation, Fla., died Nov. 17, 2017. Born in Detroit, she lived in Brooklyn, Bayonne, and Jersey City before moving to Plantation 40 years ago.
Mrs. Ast had worked as a bookkeeper.
She helped her husband set up and operate Astor Shoes, a retail women’s shoe store in Bayonne.
She was a member of Congregation B’nai Jacob, Jersey City; served as treasurer, Hadassah L’Chayim Plantation chapter, for over 40 years; and as an officer and/or board member of local chapters of American Jewish Congress, Women’s American ORT, and Deborah Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Henry, she is survived by two sons, Larry (Susan) of Denver and David (Paula) of Randolph; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
