Sybil Waimon-Kaphan
Sybil Waimon-Kaphan, 93, of Queensbury, NY, died Aug. 26, 2015. She was born in New York City and grew up in East Orange before moving to Livingston to raise a family. She later resided in Parsippany until 2008.
Very active in civic affairs, Mrs. Waimon-Kaphan and her first husband were a founding family of Temple Beth Shalom, Livingston, where she taught religious school.
At age 16, she was awarded a full scholarship at Parson’s School of Design in New York City. She left to volunteer for the war effort.
She became a chapter president of Livingston Hadassah and went on to serve the Northern NJ Region as vice president.
Predeceased by her husbands, Matt Waimon in 1983 and Monroe Kaphan in 2008, she is survived by two sons, Larry (Jeannie) Waimon and Chuck (Margit) Waimon; her daughter, Gail Waimon (life partner Leonard Friedman); a stepdaughter, Jill Ogonowski; a stepson, Jeff Kaphan; four grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and four great-grandsons.
A private service was held. Memorial contributions may be made to Steve Caporizzo’s Pet Connection or SPCA of Upstate NY.
