Susan Goldberg
Susan Goldberg, 88, of Union died March 17, 2018. She grew up in Newark and lived many years in Springfield before moving to Union in 2011. She also maintained a residence in Delray Beach, Fla., for the last 44 years.
Born in Germany, she was on one of the last boats to leave the country before the war began. Her parents escaped from Auschwitz.
Mrs. Goldberg graduated from the Winifred Beauty School after finishing high school in Newark. She was a homemaker during her marriage to her first husband of 16 years, the late Bernard Sanders, and her second husband of 20 years, Jack Goldberg.
She was an active member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield, where she twice served as president of the sisterhood (now Women’s League for Conservative Judaism) and was named the chapter’s “Woman of the Year.” Her husband Jack served as temple president.
She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Justin Horowitz of Union and Delray Beach; her daughter, Cheryl Sanders Jayne of Springfield; her son, Michael (Linda) Sanders of Florham Park; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 22 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
