Super Sunday still a Middlesex fund-raiser

The Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County will hold its last annual Super Sunday fund-raiser on Jan. 11.

Although the federation will officially merge with the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County on Jan. 1, the all-day phonathon — running from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Middlesex federation office in South River — will be a Middlesex-only fund-raising event.

Middlesex ends its fiscal year on June 30, Monmouth on Dec. 31. While the financial intricacies are being worked out, the two federations will have separate budgets and allocations for their own programming. Middlesex has an annual Super Sunday, but Monmouth has, for several years, held separate community call-in days.

Monmouth executive director Keith Krivitzky, who will be CEO of the combined federation, said the ultimate answer to the question: “When we integrate the campaigns, do we want to do one Super Sunday or two?” will make little difference. “We will be one organization,” he said, “and whether it comes from the right hand or left hand, we’re still one organization.”

Middlesex executive director Susan Antman, who will be senior executive vice president of the post-merger federation, said that Super Sunday is “a wonderful opportunity to contact our donors to thank them and remind them how much their generous support means to our community and to encourage their continued support.

“When individuals make a gift to federation,” she said, “they bring our mission to life — caring for the vulnerable locally and worldwide, forging strong connections with Israel, attracting people to a more vibrant community, and inspiring the next generation to embrace Jewish life.”

Volunteer callers will seek to bring in donations matching last year’s total of $675,796, said Rachel Ingber, Middlesex federation’s director of financial resource development.

“Super Sunday is the largest day of outreach to our Jewish community to raise critically important funds for those in need in our community locally, in Israel, and around the world,” Ingber said. “We look forward to everyone’s continued support.”

On Super Sunday, community members are being asked to bring used eyeglasses to be donated to those in need through the New Jersey Lions Club and cell phones to be given to Verizon’s HopeLine program, which provides phones to victims of domestic violence.

Richard and Jennifer Bullock of Edison are serving as chairs of Super Sunday. “I’m on the federation board,” Jennifer said, “and my husband is very involved with Rutgers Hillel as vice president of its board. We are both aware of where our dollars go and the good they do both here and abroad. When we were asked to be chair people, the natural thing was for us to say yes.”

Super Sunday follow-up calling nights will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 26 and 27.
