Steven Schwarz
Steven Schwarz, 73, of South Orange died Nov. 28, 2010. Born in Newark, he lived in the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., area for many years.
Mr. Schwarz was a principal at New York Engineering Company/Hazleton Machine Company, a family-owned steel fabricating business. More recently he was an engineering and business consultant.
He graduated from Lehigh University.
For his entire adult life, he held local and national leadership positions in the Jewish community. He was a founding member of the Young Leadership Division of the United Jewish Appeal; president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre; and chair of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA). He was a great-grandson of Rabbi Isaac Schwarz, the founding rabbi of Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange. He is survived by his wife Karen; two daughters, Erica Furman and Joanie Rosenthal; two brothers, James of South Orange and Roger of Silver Spring, Md.; four grandchildren; his stepchildren, Elissa and Neil Schnelwar and David and Roxzan Zager; and three stepgrandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 30 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Oheb Shalom Congregation or St. Barnabas Hospice.
