Stanley Stern
Stanley Stern, 90, of Woodcliff Lake died April 4, 2014. Born in New York City, he lived in Hoboken, North Bergen, Hillsdale, Bayonne, Lakewood, Monroe Township, and Whippany before moving to Woodcliff Lake in 2013.
Mr. Stern worked as a podorthist, a maker of custom shoe orthotics for various companies for over 15 years, most recently working for Footsaver in Bloomfield. He was licensed to prescribe custom shoes and had managed several shoe stores before retiring 15 years ago.
He earned a BS in chemistry from the University of Virginia and did graduate work in chemistry at New York University.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was an active volunteer for Morristown Medical Center for several years and, while living in Monroe Township, was active in the Clearbrook community’s video program.
Predeceased by his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by his companion of many years, Florence Frischman; his daughter, Robin (Dennis) Gudgel of Illinois; two sons, William (Amy) of Plainsboro and Jamie (Jeanine) of River Vale; his stepchildren, Michael (Danielle) Farber of Montreal and Ellen Farber of North Carolina; his companion’s sons, Bill, Gary, and Dan Frischman, and their children; a sister, Ruth Goldman; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Services were held April 8 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Whippany. Memorial contributions may be made to Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Medical Center.
