Sophie Kahn Magod
Sophie Kahn Magod of Somerset, 100, died March 21, 2014. Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Union and Lake Worth, Fla., before moving to Somerset nine years ago.
Mrs. Magod had a long career as a legal secretary, during which she worked with judges and some of the most prominent attorneys in Newark and Elizabeth.
She graduated from Central High School, Newark, in the early 1930s.
Throughout her life she was active in numerous organizations, including parent organizations and B’nai B’rith, and was a life member of Hadassah, both in Union and Florida. She had also been a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Union. In Florida, she was a member of Beth Tikvah, Lake Worth, and was an officer and activity chairperson of Hadassah at Covered Bridge, Lake Worth.
Predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1984, she is survived by her son, John (Susan) of East Brunswick; her daughter, Marjorie (Bruce) Goldstein of Chester; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 23 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
