Sondra Rabinowitz
Sondra “Sandy” Rabinowitz, 76, of Burke, Va., died Sept. 28, 2011. Born in Newark, she had lived in Stamford and New Britain, Conn.; Poughkeepsie, NY; and Montclair before moving to Virginia eight years ago.
Mrs. Rabinowitz worked as an employment counselor at Rehabilitation Perspectives in Burke, Va. She had worked as a school psychologist in Norwalk, Conn., for many years.
She graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and received a bachelor’s degree in French from New York University. She received a master’s degree in school psychology from Fairfield University.
She was a member of Connecticut Association of School Psychologists.
She was a member of Temple Beth El, Stamford, and Agudas Achim, Alexandria, Va.
She was a life member of Hadassah and a Longwood Knolls book club member. She was also captain of Sawyer’s Mom’s Team for the annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation walk-a-thon.
Predeceased by her daughter Ilana Davida Schwartz, she is survived by her husband, Hazan Sidney; two daughters, Tamar Gold of Elizabeth and Alissa Locke of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Leona Kaplan of Hillside; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 2 with arrangements by Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, Stamford.
