N.J. Sen. Cory Booker was recently photographed holding a sign that reads “From Palestine to Mexico, All the walls have got to go,” a slogan developed by the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights. Booker’s spokesman, Jeff Giertz, attempted to defend him when he told JTA that “he didn’t have time to read the sign, and from his cursory glance he thought it was talking about Mexico and didn’t realize it had anything to do with Israel.”

Some questions for Sen. Booker: Is there a wall separating the U.S. from Mexico?  If not, what is there “to go?”

Should an elected official hold up a sign without realizing what the sign says?

If a Republican official held up a sign opposing the two-state solution, and later claimed he didn’t realize what the sign said, would he be getting a pass from the media?
