Shuls offer respite

In West Orange, the Lubavitch Center of Essex County, Ahawas Achim B’nai Jacob & David, and Congregation Ohr Torah invited families without power to a hot dinner buffet on Nov. 4 at Ohr Torah. About 150 people came to enjoy the food, camaraderie, and the music of B’nai Jazz, a local band at the event, organized by Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz of Chabad-Lubavitch of Essex County, Rabbi Marc Spivak of Ohr Torah, and Rabbi Eliezer Zwickler of AABJ&D.

The Singerman family of West Orange wrote at the West Orange shuls listserv, “A big thank you to the community rabbis and the generous anonymous donors, organizers, caterers, B’nai Jazz, and numerous volunteers for the beautiful dinner…. We appreciated the ‘warmth’ of the evening not only in terms of room temperature, but the extra efforts made to make it more ‘simcha’ rather than ‘soup kitchen’ by providing musical entertainment and wonderful food.”
