Shirley Cahn

Shirley Cahn (Yablick), 83, of West Orange died Nov. 2, 2011. Born in Newark, she raised her family in West Orange, where she had resided since 1959.

Mrs. Cahn was an elementary school teacher for the Newark Board of Education for 35 years. She retired in 1992.

She earned a degree in marketing from New York University and a teaching degree from Kean College.

She was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Oheb Shalom Congregation sisterhood, Hadassah, and the N.J. Retirees’ Education Association, and was the Past Matron of the Order of the Golden Chain.

Predeceased by her husband, Werner, in 2006, she is survived by her daughter, Janet Wright of East Hanover; her son, Marc of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Harold Yablick of Bloomfield; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 4 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
