Seymour Vogel

Seymour H. “Sy” Vogel, 89, of Clark died Dec. 1, 2012. Born in New York City, he lived in Rahway for more than 85 years and in Clark for the past two years.

Mr. Vogel and his brother Jordan were co-founders of Vogel’s Music in 1950, operating in Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth, New Brunswick, and Perth Amboy for over 50 years. He worked alongside his wife Irene from the late 1960s until he retired in 2003.

He graduated from Rahway High School in 1941 and from the University of Illinois in 1949 with a degree in political science.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was an active member and a past president of Temple Beth Torah of Rahway. He was a staunch supporter of the Jewish Federation of Central New Jersey and a fund raiser for Israel Bonds, UJA, and his synagogue.

He loved to travel, dance, and sing, and in his youth performed at the family resort in Lake Huntington, NY.

Predeceased by his wife, Irene (Ringel), in 2010, he is survived by two daughters, Lynn Vogel of Princeton and Jan (Randy) LeGrande of Clark; his son, Louis (Marcelo Mendez) of Maplewood; a brother, Jordan of Union; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 3 with arrangements by Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home, Rahway. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah, 111 Valley Road, Clark, NJ 07066.
