Seymour T. “Timmy” Singer, 88, of West Orange died Jan. 17, 2017. Born in Newark, he lived in Springfield for 42 years before moving to West Orange 10 years ago.
Mr. Singer worked in his family’s business, I. Katz and Son of Newark, a roofing, siding, and window company, for over 30 years, retiring 20 years ago.
He graduated from South Side High School in Newark, where he had been a star quarterback in the late 1940s.
He served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and continued his service as part of the U.S. Army Ready Reserve.
He was a member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield and a former member of its men’s club.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet (Zucker), and two daughters, Tracey Singer of Elizabeth and Kimberley Singer of West Orange.
Services were held Jan. 20 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
