Seymour Handler, 86, formerly of Livingston and Edgartown, Mass., died Sept. 16, 2018 in Bath, Pa. He was born in Newark.
Mr. Handler owned and operated an Esso and Exxon gas station for many years on Avon Avenue in Newark, and also bought and sold used cars at Skyline Auction, Bordentown Auction, and Manheim Auction.
He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in history.
He spent his 20s traveling widely throughout Europe, learning foreign languages, and writing in the Mexican countryside.
He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Livingston.
Predeceased by his wife, Rita (Stoecker), in 2006, and a son, Chet Handler, in 1984, he is survived by five children, Roy Handler, Glen Handler, Simone Handler-Hutchinson, Shoshanna Handler, and Chelsea Handler; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 23 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
