Seymour Feder

Seymour Feder, 93, of Cranford died Oct. 19, 2012. Born in Newark, he lived there and in Roselle before moving to Cranford 35 years ago.

Mr. Feder was the co-owner of Brookside Lumber and Supply Co. of Roselle Park for many years. He also worked for Silver Line Building Products of Kenilworth, becoming their employee of the year in 1992.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, and was stationed in the Harbor Defenses Attu Islands in the Aleutians, Alaska. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1946.

He was a member of the Twin Boro Lion’s Club and was their president in 1953. He was the Master Mason in Hermann Lodge #81 Elizabeth NJ (1951) and served as Worshipful Master (1958). He was a founding member and 1st secretary of the 13th District Past Masters Association (1961). He was appointed Right Worshipful Grand Chaplain by the M.W. Grand Lodge of NJ (1970). He was also a founding member and 1st President of the 13th District Scholarship Foundation (1971-73). Additionally, he served as president of the Society of the Saint John (1978), and was invested with the DeMolay Legion of Honor (1997). In 2000, he was appointed to the Board of Governors, Scotch Plains 32 Degree Masonic Learning Centers for Children Inc., and in 2002 was elected president of Union HI-12 Club of NJ.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alice (Gerwin); two sons, Martin of Chicago and Richard of Cranford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 21 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the 32nd Degree Masonic Learning Center for Children, Inc., Scotch Plains.
