Scout leader honored with Shofar Award
David Meiskin of Freehold was honored for his “outstanding service on behalf of Jewish youth in the program of the Boy Scouts of America.” The Shofar Award was presented to him at the Monmouth Council BSA Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, held June 16 at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel.
The Shofar Award was established by the National Jewish Committee on Scouting and derives its name from the shofar, or ram’s horn, that is used to call people to the service of God; Meiskin, said Monmouth BSA leaders, has answered that call.
Meiskin, 51, has been active in Scouting for more than 20 years, serving as Den leader, Webelos leader, member of the Pack Committee, Cubmaster, and assistant Scoutmaster. An active member of the Monmouth Council in the Jewish Committee on Scouting for more than five years, he is also active in Monmouth Torah Links, an organization that provides educational opportunities to the Jewish community. Meiskin has conducted classes for Jewish Scouts to help them meet the requirements for the various Jewish Scouting awards.
