Sanford Goldberg
Sanford “Sandy” Goldberg, 86, of Maplewood died July 13, 2018. He previously had lived in Newark, Livingston, and West Orange.
Mr. Goldberg joined his father and brother in the insurance firm founded by his grandfather in 1914. He later assumed executive positions with State Mutual of America and John Hancock.
Involved with charitable affairs, he served on the boards of Erste Bershader, B’nai B’rith, JCC MetroWest, and Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston.
He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, where he was captain of the football team, and went on to play football for the U.S. Army and in college until an injury benched him. He graduated from New York
University.
Predeceased by his wife, Ann, he is survived by two daughters, Sue Ellen (Michael) Greenberg and Terri Goldberg; a brother, Robert; and two grandsons.
Private services were held July 15 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Rabbi Samuel L. Cohen Memorial Fund at TBSNJ.org/support-tbs.
