Sandra Grossman
Sandra Grossman (Katz), 81, of West Caldwell died March 29, 2015. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she lived in Florida and Long Island, eventually settling in West Caldwell.
While her children were young, she volunteered with many organizations, including the Home & School Association and the Girl Scouts.
As her children grew older, she returned to college to earn her bachelor’s degree in marketing.
An avid tennis player, she managed a local pro shop for several years. This led to managing and eventually owning a women’s fashion store, Tiger’s Eye Boutique in North Caldwell, for 30 years before closing the store nine years ago.
She was an active part of the West Caldwell community for 55 years. She was active with the West Caldwell Public Library, took courses in film and literature, and took up painting with pastels, winning several awards for her work.
She was a longtime member of Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell, a board member and recording secretary of Friends of the West Caldwell Public Library, and a member of the University Women of West Essex and the Pastel Society of New Jersey.
Predeceased by her husband, Herb, whom she married in 1952, she is survived by three daughters, Robin (Matthew) Mangino, Lynne Grossman (Allen Poulsen), and Laurie (Jeff) Salter; and four grandsons.
Services were held March 31 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the West Caldwell Public Library or a cancer-related organization.
