Sandra B. Fielo
Sandra B. Fielo, 83, of Madison died Oct. 11, 2018. Born in Newark, she lived in South Orange for 27 years before moving to Madison in 1989.
Dr. Fielo was a board-certified gerontological nurse and a professor emerita of State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. She worked most recently at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, where she was the director of the nursing center, and as a nurse at the Senior Center in Madison for the past 29 years. She was widely published, including three textbooks and 30 articles. She had designed and directed the Stay Healthy Program at the Madison Senior Center since 2004.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in medical-surgical nursing from New York University, and a doctorate in nursing education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Among her honors was receiving the CVS National Council on Aging Prescription for Better Health and Wellness Award and the Proclamation of Appreciation from the Borough of Madison.
She was an active member of Chavurat Lamdeinu Synagogue in Summit.
Predeceased by her husband, Joel, she is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Edwina) of Richmond, Va., and Eric of Madison; a sister, Michelle Raimonda of New Jersey; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held Oct. 14 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Chatham.
