Salo Kluger

Salo “Sal” Kluger, 69, of Aberdeen died July 14, 2016. Born to Shoa survivors in a displaced persons camp in Weiden, Germany, his family was relocated by a Jewish relief agency to Lynn, Mass., where he spent his childhood.

Mr. Kluger served for three decades as a self-described bureaucrat in the Internal Revenue Service. He retired in 2002 as deputy director for the New York Region after having led the agency’s response to 9/11. 

He studied at Northeastern University in Boston. 

He dedicated his retirement years to the preservation of Yiddish culture as a volunteer for the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Myrna (Glazer); his son, Bernie (Laurel Blatchford) of Washington, DC; his daughter, Frieda (Michael) Gold of the Bronx; and three granddaughters.

Services were held July 17 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Yiddish Book Center.
