Sally Hindes

Sally Klein Hindes, 92, a lifelong resident of New Brunswick died Dec. 22, 2017. 

Mrs. Hindes graduated from New Brunswick High School and worked as a secretary and model before her marriage. At the age of 40, she enrolled at Douglass College as part of the Mary I. Bunting Program for Women. Over the next 16 years, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in speech and hearing, and a doctorate in education. 

After working in the North Brunswick School System and for the State Department of Education, she started the Educational Services Center, specializing in helping children with learning
disabilities. 

She served on the boards and as an adviser to many organizations, including the Raritan Valley Workshop, Middlesex County College, and the Easter Seals Society, and volunteered at Elijah’s Promise Food Kitchen. She was also a past president of the local chapter of Brandeis Women. She was a lifelong member of Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, New Brunswick. 

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Nathan; two sons, Paul (Sharon) and Robert (Amy O’Donnell); her daughter, Jane Hindes (Steven) Miller; and nine
grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 24 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen or Jewish Social Services Committee of New Brunswick and Highland Park.
