Ruth Weinberg

Ruth Jeanette Mindlin Weinberg, 97, of West Orange died June 16, 2013. Born in East Orange, she raised her children in South Orange.

Mrs. Weinberg taught physical education in the Newark school system for 26 years, and, with her husband Bertram, owned and operated Pocono Highland and Laurel Lake camps in the Poconos.

She was a graduate of Douglass College.

She traveled the world with her son, Max, drummer with the E-Street Band, whose members called her “Mighty Mommy.”

She was a lifelong member of Hadassah, as well as Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel of the Oranges; her father, Max, was one of its founders.

Predeceased by her husband and a daughter, Patricia Smith, she is survived by her son, Max; two daughters, Nancy Winston and Abby Levin; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange.
