Ruth Stein
Ruth Stein, 89, of Tinton Falls died Aug. 6, 2011. She was born in New York City and also had lived in Asbury Park.
Ms. Stein worked as a medical reference librarian for many years. Additionally, she created academic indexes for books in the fields of science and history.
She had an advanced degree in library science.
She was an active community member in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, where she lived until moving to New Jersey in the 1980s.
She had been a member of Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls and the League of Women Voters. At the Seabrook Village community, she participated in Jewish services and Yiddish culture groups, and had recently helped organize a Jewish book discussion group.
Predeceased by her sister, Minna Lee, she is survived by two nieces, Deborah Lee and Rebecca Macwilliams; and a stepson, Mike Tinker.
Services were held Aug. 10 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to the League of Women Voters.
