Ronald Lauer

Ronald Murray Lauer, 86, of West Orange died July 11, 2017. Born in Newark, he resided in Summit before moving to West Orange 13 years ago. 

Dr. Lauer set up a general dentistry private practice in 1957 with his father in New Providence, where he remained until retiring in 2001. 

He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark. 

He earned a B.A. from Rutgers University and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School with a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S.) degree. 

He volunteered for service in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. 

After his retirement, he volunteered for and led several organizations. He served as president of the Old Guard of Summit and was honored with the “Unsung Hero” and “Life Membership” awards. As a member of Temple Sinai for more than 50 years, he served as chairman of the Renaissance Group for many years, for which he received certificates of appreciation.

After moving to West Orange, he served as condominium board secretary and planned and conducted the 9/11 memorial service for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eilene; three sons, Steve, Larry, and Scott (their partners Gladie, Cathy, and Jeff); a sister, Iris; and a granddaughter.

Services were held July 13 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
