Robert M. Fishkin, 86, died Oct. 11, 2012. Born and schooled in Perth Amboy, he was a longtime resident of Mountainside.
Mr. Fishkin joined the family business started by his father and uncles as a magazine and cigar store in 1912. Over the years Fishkin Bros. grew into one of the most prominent photography stores in New Jersey. He was president when it closed in 2004.
He graduated from Rutgers University as a mechanical engineer.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was active in community affairs, serving as president of the Perth Amboy Chamber of Commerce and its Retail Division. He also served as president of the YM-YWHA, was active in the Parking Authority, and was lauded as Entrepreneur of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; his daughter, Martha; two sons, Sam and Paul; his stepdaughter, Marjorie; and five grandchildren.
