Rita “Big Red” Brill, 83, of Highland Park died Dec. 31, 2013. Her husband, Morton, “Sporty Morty,” 82, died Jan. 18, 2014. They were both born and raised in Brooklyn and met in school at the ages of 11 and 12. They married at 18 and raised their family in Brooklyn, where they lived until retiring to Tamarac, Fla. They moved to Highland Park in May 2013.
Mr. Brill owned and operated an auto body painting and repair shop (V-M Auto Refinishing) in Queens for over 30 years before he retired.
Mrs. Brill enjoyed writing poetry, which was published in her retirement community’s local newspaper.
They are survived by their daughter, Gayle Brill (Uri) Mittler; their son, Michael (Michelle); and four grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 2 for Rita and Jan. 20 for Morton at Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth, with arrangements handled by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
