Rita Brecher
Rita Brecher, 84, of Denville died Nov. 20, 2014. Born in Newark, she lived in Hillside, Irvington, and Springfield for over 55 years before moving to Denville in 2012.
Mrs. Brecher started her teaching career in Hillside and later became a substitute teacher who also taught French at F.M. Gaudineer Junior High School in Springfield. She went on to become an ESL teacher and private tutor in Union County locations such as Springfield, Plainfield, Kenilworth, Berkeley Heights, and Clark.
She held a bachelor’s degree from Upsala College in English with a minor in French. She earned a Teacher’s Certificate from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean University).
She was an active member of Deborah and the PTA of Springfield. She also was a volunteer at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Predeceased by her husband, David, and a daughter-in-law, Marla, she is survived by two sons, Stuart and Steven (Shari); her daughter, Bonnie Brecher; a sister, Edna Bobker; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 23 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
