Richard Lasday
Richard Milton Lasday, 95, of Maplewood died Feb. 24, 2019. He was born in Pittsburgh and grew up on Long Island and Queens. After marrying his wife in 1950, he moved to Washington, Pa., before moving to West Orange in 1996.
Dr. Lasday was a veterinarian with a large and small animal practice. He did part-time veterinary work until he was 85 years old.
He attended Cornell University and then Auburn University Veterinary School.
He served in the Army during the Korean War in Chicago and Kansas City.
Active in the Jewish community, he served as synagogue and B’nai B’rith president in Washington.
He enjoyed gardening, nature, and art; he painted his entire adult life.
Predeceased by his wife, Audrey (Golomb), in 2011, he is survived by two daughters, Judi Curl (Jeff Joy) of Owings Mills, Md., and Deborah Lasday (Brian O’Reilly) of Cedar Grove; his son, David Lasday (Lisa Stern) of New York City; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 27 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to B’nai B’rith; Hadassah; Beth Israel Congregation, 265 North Ave., Washington, PA 15301; or Temple Ner Tamid, Bloomfield.
