Paula Kolin
Paula Thaler Kolin, 80, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Dec. 4, 2015. She formerly resided in Belleville and West Orange.
Mrs. Kolin taught English and special education in Belleville and West Orange for 30 years.
She attended Syracuse University and received a BA and master’s degree in English from Rutgers University.
She was chairwoman of United Jewish Federation of MetroWest (predecessor to Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ) Women’s Division’s Business and Professional Sector campaign in support of the 1988 United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest campaign. She was active in fund-raising and educational outreach conducted under the auspices of Women’s Division. A member of the Division’s campaign cabinet and board, she served as the sector’s associate chairwoman in 1985. She also served on federation’s task force on Jewish education and held membership in Jewish Family Service and Women’s League of Daughters of Israel, West Orange.
Other leadership positions include having served as president of the West Orange chapter of Women’s American ORT and secretary to the board of The Jewish Center, West Orange, and vice presidents of its sisterhood. She was also a Hadassah member. In Florida, she was copresident of Brandeis University National Women’s Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jacob; her son, Elliot (Tali); her daughter, Elyssa (Barry) Kupferberg; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 6 with arrangements by Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Delray Beach, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center or Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.
