Pat Azarnoff
Pat Azarnoff, 83, of Banning, Calif., died March 16, 2017. Born in Newark, she was a longtime New Jersey resident.
Mrs. Azarnoff was a preschool-through-high-school teacher in the United States and Germany, and the founding director of Pediatric Projects Inc., a nonprofit corporation that developed medical toys and books, provided training to hospital staff and counseling to families, and published a newsletter summarizing research. She served on the faculties of Boston University Graduate School of Nursing, California State University Northridge, and the University of California School of Nursing in Los Angeles.
She received her master’s degree in child development and special education from Boston University.
Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Roy, in 2012, she is survived by two daughters, Julie (Steve) Fonseca and Karen (Eric) Pals; her siblings, Rae Menkes of Freehold, Gloria Stempler of Freehold, Bernard and Elaine Menkes of Morristown, and Arline and Hal Shapiro of Millburn; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 3 in Los Angeles. Memorial contributions may be made to The Association of Child Life Professionals.
