Oscar Alvin Kopet
Dr. Oscar Alvin (“Al”) Kopet, 79, of Chatham died Nov. 7, 2010 at Garden Terrace Nursing Home, Chatham. He was born in New York City.
Dr. Kopet enjoyed a successful private practice in New Jersey, caring for three generations of families, before retiring in 2000.
He was a graduate of Queens College, NY, and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma De Mexico, where he attended medical school. Upon graduation, he returned to New York to complete his specialty training in pediatrics.
During his professional career, he was active in medical education at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark and St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
An accomplished photographer, he and a group of fellow physicians formed a camera group and traveled together to photograph nature, architecture, and people. He was also fluent in five languages.
Predeceased by his first wife, Francine Rosenthal, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda (Lavitola); two daughters, Jeri Nardiello and Jacquelyn Feller; three grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Bradley Funeral Homes, Chatham. A memorial service will be held in the near future. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, Union.
