Norman Rosen

Norman S. Rosen of Fords died July 8, 2018.

Mr. Rosen was president of Menlo Building Maintenance Company for many years prior to his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean War. He also participated in the Atomic Bomb, and first thermonuclear hydrogen bomb detonation tests at Enewitok Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. He later transferred to Philadelphia for advanced training.

He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Mordecai, Perth Amboy, where he served as an officer and on the board of trustees for over 50 years.

In the 1970s, he became a semi-professional magician. He was a founding member of the Society of American Magicians Assembly 161 during that decade, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Recently, he was awarded the presidential citation from the Society of American Magicians for his more than 40 years of performing. He performed many shows at Lyons Veterans Hospital, RWJ Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, and at other various locations throughout New Jersey.

Predeceased by a grandson, Derek Jacobs, in 2006, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis; his son, Marc W. (Sherry); three daughters, Leslie (Jeffrey) Jacobs, Sharon Rosen, and Jill Rosen; a sister, Elaine Perlstein; a brother, Jeffrey Rosen; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Services were held July 11 with arrangements by Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Fords. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice of JFK Medical Center, Edison.
