‘Never again’
The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education at the College of Saint Elizabeth has been a leader in Holocaust education in New Jersey since 1990. CSE has done so much to raise awareness of Holocaust issues, as well as other genocide crises. It is important for our Jewish community to know that this CSE center is committed to ensure the concept of “Never again” to any group of people. Our mission statement emphasizes a commitment to providing education and remembrance of the Holocaust and other genocides, and to facilitate Catholic/Jewish dialogue.
This year, CSE will offer its 25th annual Kristallnacht Commemoration on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The remembrance of Kristallnacht will be a week-long program on the campus, offering the Interfaith Dialogue Program on Nov. 11 and in-class faculty sessions throughout the week. These sessions provide opportunities to learn more from survivor testimony, films, and student and faculty presentations. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge for any of the programs. CSE will be commemorating the 77th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the 70th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust,
and the 50th anniversary of “Nostra Aetate.”
Thousands of students, teachers, and community members from a variety of backgrounds have attended these inspiring and educational programs. The center has collaborated with Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, and secular communities and engaged wide participation in their varied programs. New Jersey teachers have had professional development to enable them to teach about the Holocaust and other genocides, such as those in Cambodia, Darfur, and Rwanda.
